Vernon Kay intervened to ‘silence’ the Loose Women crowd on Friday, as the host raised fears about breaking ITV’s ‘watershed’ live on air during the lunchtime programme.
Having proved popular on previous occasions, there was another shake up at the end of the week, as Loose Women became Loose Men once again, with This Morning and Family Fortunes presenter at the head of the panel, as he was joined by ex Boyzone star Ronan Keating, former Strictly winner Ore Oduba and Harry Redknapp, who made his debut on the show.
One of the early talking points in the hour long broadcast saw the quartet discuss claims made by singer Robbie Williams in his Netflix documentary that he’s been battling ‘the man-o-pause’ as he approaches 50. Vernon put it to his ITV co-stars if that term was ‘unfair on women,’ with Ore saying: “I think what things men go through at a certain point of their life is important, so if you trivialise the menopause by calling it the ‘man-o-pause’ you’ve lost half the audience.” He added: “I think comparing what men are going through to what women are going through, something so medical and psychological, it’s not a good idea.”

As Vernon then steered the conversation onto the importance of speaking openly about what both women and men go through in later life, as Ronan remarked: “Robbie might be onto something. Our hair starts to thin, we get lines etc, we go through things at certain ages” as Vernon then interrupted: “Erectile dysfunction,” to which Ronan replied: “Speak for yourself!”
With Ronan struggling to regain composure, Ore stepped in and told Vernon: “You can’t just expect to say erectile dysfunction on national TV and expect the man to keep talking,” as Vernon then insisted: “It’s on the list. That’s all I’m saying.” The conversation momentarily got back on course as Vernon said Robbie’s new documentary was ‘an episode of Loose Men in itself,’ before he made the mistake of saying: “You say erectile dysfunction and everyone goes ‘ooh’ but that’s what we’re here for, that’s what Loose Men is about.”
Ore responded: “That’s what it’s all about – erectile dysfunction,” to which Vernon, unwittingly set off a few members of the audience, when he went to go to an ad break and innocently began: “Anyway, lot’s more to come.” As laughter rang around the studio, Vernon started to grimace and shouted: “Pack it in1 Pack in in. It’s before 9 o’clock, come on!”
Taking a similar stance, Ronan commented: “Get your minds out the gutter,” with Vernon adding: “You’ll put people off their lunch!”
