I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2023 is kicking off the new series this Sunday with a challenge like no other, as three unsuspecting celebs are dropped in the very heart of the sizzling Australian )utback.
Instead of arriving in the jungle as usual, Nigel Farage, Josie Gibson and Nella Rose will be dropped in the desert, where they will be tasked with helping their campmates, who are 2,000 miles away on the Gold Coast.
Their mission is to win time for their fellow campmates who are taking part in other challenges on the coast.
The trio will face various challenges in the Outback to help their campmates in their bid to win stars and ultimately food.
The other campmates will appear in the show’s traditional jungle setting, with this year’s line-up including Britney Spears’s sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, JLS singer Marvin Humes, and EastEnders actress Danielle Harold.
They will be joined in the jungle camp by First Dates star Fred Sirieix, reality star Sam Thompson, food critic Grace Dent, and Hollyoaks star Nick Pickard when the group enter the jungle.
This year’s lineup has sparked some backlash from viewers, with some complaining about Jamie Lynn being on the lineup, while others threatened to boycott over Nigel’s participation in the show.
One viewer expressed their disappointment on X (previously Twitter), saying: “Just so upset by this. Ant, Dec and ITV platforming a xenophobe who revels in whipping up division and poison. What has this country become?”
Another viewer urged others to boycott the show, stating: “BOYCOTT…. ITV – seeing a rating drop is the only message that will register with the powers that be… Farage has been the architect of division and decline in our country, and his web of lies to achieve Brexit can never be forgotten.”
A third viewer added: “Boycott #ImACeleb @ITV are sanitising the deplorable @Nigel_Farage. #NigelFarage does not reflect the nation’s values!”
One viewer was quite upset, saying: “I decided to avoid I’m a Celeb after they gave Matt Hancock a platform to excuse himself of all his wrongdoing and lawbreaking. This year, it’s hatemonger Farage. Irresponsible, immoral, and greedy for viewing figures. #ImAceleb and Ant and Dec can #GetInTheBin”.
Another disappointed fan added: “Shame on ITV for giving Farage a platform on one of its most popular shows. Pure evil vibes.”
Ahead of his stint on the iconic show, Nigel said he has been “demonised” over the years and wants to show people he is not “mean-spirited, small-minded, nasty” by joining the show.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! launches this Sunday at 9pm on ITV1 & ITVX
