Taylor Swift was left devastated after she found out that a fan had died before her concert in Brazil.
The singer shared a heartbreaking statement on social media, stating: “I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this.” On Friday night, the star took to the stage in Rio de Janeiro for a sold-out stadium show of her Eras Tour.
But as soon as Taylor was off-stage, she took to Instagram to share the sad news with her followers. She revealed that a fan had died before the show.
She wrote: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words but it is with a shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this. There’s very little information I have other than the fact that she was so incredibly beautiful and far too young.”
She went on to add: “My broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil.”
The news came as temperatures reached heights of 100 degrees in Brazil, with Taylor even visibly sweltering as she performed on stage, reports The Mirror. The singer was even seen pausing her show to ensure her fans had enough water in the humid conditions.
During her performances for the Evermore era, in videos circulating social media, Taylor could be seen waving to members of staff at the venue and urging them to bring water to the crowd. In one clip the crowd can be heard chanting “water, water, water”.
One clip sees the hitmaker halting her show and saying: “There’s people that need water right here, maybe 30, 35, 40 feet back. So whoever is in charge of giving them that, just make sure that happens. Can I get a signal that you know where they are?”
Taylor, who is currently on the second leg of her tour, is scheduled to perform in Rio again on Saturday and Sunday night. In her statement, Taylor noted that she would not speak about the fan’s death from stage due to her being “overwhelmed by grief.”
