Suspect in court accused of robbing man of his car and its contents in Wallsend

A man has appeared in court accused of robbing a man of his car and its contents in North Tyneside.

Nathan Waugh was in the dock following the suspected robbery in Wallsend in December 2021. It’s alleged that the 28-year-old was one of two males to steal the victim’s car and its contents, including cash, the value of which was unknown.

Waugh, of Marshall Wallis Road, in South Shields, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court this week to face on count of robbery. Because the charge was so serious and it could only be heard at the crown court, no pleas were taken during the brief hearing.

Instead, Waugh spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address and to state that he understood the allegation against him. Prosecutor, Rob Lawson, said the alleged offence happened on December 2 2021 at Charlotte Street, in Wallsend. He added: “This is indictable-only, so the Crown would invite you to send it to the crown court.”

Magistrates agreed and released Waugh on unconditional bail to next appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on June 7. Waugh’s co-accused was also due at the same court but the case against him was adjourned until later this month.
