Strictly’s Angela Scanlon at risk of ‘curse’ on BBC show as axe fears raised

Angela Scanlon could be an unlikely casualty of the Strictly Come Dancing axe this weekend, as exerts claim she could fall victim to a ballroom ‘curse’

The Irish presenter was viewed as a frontrunner for victory on the new series of the BBC show when she was confirmed as a Strictly contestant back in the summer. Most bookies had her in the top three of the betting, alongside the likes of Bobby Brazier and Nigel Harman but, while she is still in the top five in the latest odds, her scores have been rather predictable of late, as she and pro partner Carlos Gu have attracted some criticism from the judges.

The couple bounced back to near the top of the leaderboard last week thanks to their Black Swan themed paso doble for Halloween Week but, it’s their dance genre for this week which insiders claim could be their undoing. On Saturday night, Angela and Carlos will dance a samba and that is the exact reason why their days on the dancefloor could be numbered.

According to research from Research from William Hill Vegas, the samba, notorious for its complexity, has contributed to a 21.6% of eliminations over the past six series – including Les Dennis and Eddie Kadi this year – making it the most dangerous routine out of the available dances ahead of the Jive (15%) and the Cha-Cha-Cha (11.6%)

Whilst Scanlon is not the outright favourite to be the sixth contestant to depart Strictly this year, her odds of 6/1 for elimination have shortened to 5/1 following the reveal of her dance for the latest live show. Clear avourite to get the boot this week is Adam Thomas, after the Waterloo Road actor fell into the bottom two for the first time last week.

Strictly fans are arguing that Adam has been ‘screwed over’ having been given a rumba this week, another genre that has produced very mixed fortunes on the show over the years. After this week’s songs and dances were revealed, one fan responded: “They really want to eliminate Adam this week. And last week, they screwed him by putting him second,” with a second reacting: “Adam with the hardest type of dance after a dance off”. Taking exactly the same stance, another critic blasted: “Rumba for Adam? Uh-oh?”
