Angela Rippon has revealed she’s been nursing a nasty injury on Strictly Come Dancing and will battle through the ‘pain’ on Saturday night in Blackpool. And the latest blow to her chances in the new series comes as bookies made her a ‘dead cert’ to be eliminated from the competition.
Having landed in the dance-off for the second week in a row, broadcasting legend Angela was once again saved by the judges, although not unanimously, as Krishnan Guru-Murthy was sent packing from the BBC ballroom last weekend. The result was condemned by many viewers at home, who argued that Krishnan should have stayed, but determined to prove their doubters wrong, Angela and Strictly pro partner Kai Widdrington have been busy preparing an American Smooth to perform in the iconic Tower Ballroom.
However, their preparations have been hampered by a ‘niggling’ injury that Angela has kept hidden from both the Strictly judges and viewers at home for the last few weeks and could have ultimately cost her her place in the show if medics had ruled it too severe. Writing in her weekly column for the Telegraph, ex Come Dancing host Angela explained: “Fortunately, half an hour in the hands of a Strictly physio has sorted out the nagging pain I’ve had in my rib for three weeks.”

She added: “A session of pummelling, twisting and stretching has had a satisfying result in that I’ve been deemed fit to dance.”
While Angela will get to perform for a packed audience in the Tower Ballroom, as well as millions of viewers at home during Saturday night’s Strictly live show, bookmakers are convinced it will be her last dance on Strictly, with BetWay having her as 1/2 favourite to go, the shortest elimination odds of any contestant so far this series. Annabel Croft is nearest to her in the odds on 5/2 and Angela Scanlon on 6/1.
