Katya Jones appeared to throw a bit of a ‘strop’ on Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing, after her routine with celebrity partner Nigel Harman did not get the reaction she was hoping for from the judges. And, the couple could be left paying for their mistakes as they slumped to second bottom of the leaderboard.
Katya and ex EastEnders actor Nigel could not have asked for a better start to their Strictly journey. Having been behind the likes of Bobby Brazier, Angela Scanlon and Layton Williams in the odds, they forced bookies into a major re-think, after storming to the top of the leaderboard in week one, thanks to a barnstorming paso doble to Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit.
The couple have had a mixed bag of scores since then but, now second favourites to win, their marks and positions in the Strictly standings have taken a turn for the better of late, meaning that both they and fans were hopeful for a high score as the BBC show took over the Tower Ballroom on Saturday evening. Given they finished top after closing the first live show back in September, the omens looked promising as Katya and Nigel performed last again in Blackpool; however, things didn’t go entirely to plan with their Foxtrot.
While the audience inside the famous ballroom were on their feet and, first to give his comments, Craig Revel-Horwood told the pair he ‘loved’ that style of chance, he was quick to pour cold water on any chances of a 10, as he remarked: “The footwork my love, it went wrong quite a bit,” prompting Katya to snap: “Did we?!” as her facial expression turned to one of anger and disgust as she looked annoyed by Craig’s comment.
Standing strong on his opinion, Craig replied: “Yes, it did, I’m afraid,” adding: “And we just lost it a little bit down here as well.” Craig’s colleagues also pointed out the mistakes in the routine, ruining any chances of not only a 40, but also of securing a strong position in the table. Nigel and Katya ended up second bottom with 31 out of 40, with the actor too looking really disappointed as they were interviewed by host Claudia Winkleman.
