After being convinced that a shock result was on the cards, many Strictly Come Dancing fans have been left ‘devastated’ by this week’s spoiler, with some going as far to brand it a ‘joke.’
Stakes were very high going into the Blackpool special on Saturday night, as the remaining couples in the new series of Strictly knew that at least one of them would end the weekend making an unwanted debut in the dance-off. Of the seven pairs left in the running for this year’s Glitterball trophy, only Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington had been in danger so far, meaning Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, Ellie Leach, Layton Williams, Annabel Croft and Angela Scanlon were all left in jeopardy of following suit.
Going into the Strictly live show from the iconic Tower Ballroom, Angela R was the big favourite to get the boot, with her well ahead of her rivals in the elimination odds and her chances of surviving for another week took a major dent when her and Kai ended up at the foot of this week’s leaderboard, having scored 28 out of 40 for their American Smooth.

In a night of great scores, Layton and Nikita shared top spot in the Blackpool standings, having both scored a near perfect 39, while there were new personal best scores for both Angela S and Bobby, of 38 and 35 respectively. Closest to Angela R on the leaderboard , with a score of 31, was Nigel, with pro partner Katya Jones looking far from impressed as the judges criticised their show closing Foxtrot.
As soon as credits rolled on Saturday’s show, fans expressed their concern that a shock result was a very real possibility and, when the spoiler leaked just after 11pm, it caused plenty of upset. One annoyed fan reacted: “What a joke” as a second responded: “How on EARTH were they in the dance off is beyond me. One of the best of the night!!!!!
