The unique name Rihanna has chosen for her almost one year old son has finally been revealed.
According to a birth certificate obtained by MailOnline, the son that Rihanna, 34, shares with rapper A$AP Rocky is named RZA Athelston Mayers.
The unusual moniker is inspired by New York-based hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, who both Rihanna and A$AP – real name Rakim Mayers – are thought to be huge fans of.
The stage name of the lead vocalist in the group is RZA – and it appears that Rihanna and A$AP named their child in tribute to him.
‘Athelston’ is believed to be A$AP’s middle name.
Rihanna, who is currently pregnant with her second child, gave birth to her first in May last year, and whilst she’s slowly introduced him to the world by means of a cute TikTok video, Vogue cover shoot and various outings, she’s not yet officially revealed his name.
She has, however, dropped a series of hints about the inspiration for the tot’s name, as she’s often been seen dressed in clothing with Wu-Tang Clan representations on it over the past year – as early as May 13, 2022, which is around the week she is thought to have given birth.
The megastar once spoke about why she and her beau hadn’t announced their son’s name to the world – as she appeared to cite their busy schedules.
“We just didn’t get around to it yet, really. We’ve just been living,” she told Associated Press late last year.
“But I guess there’s a certain freedom that comes with kind of just like getting it out there.”
Rihanna – real name Robyn Fenty – and A$AP Rocky were friends for years, before their relationship finally turned into something more and they went official in the summer of 2020.
They announced Rihanna’s pregnancy with their first child in January 2022, with a seriously cool photoshoot in Harlem, New York – where A$AP is from.
Rihanna displayed her bare bump by having her fuchsia pink jacket unbuttoned, with brightly coloured jewels and a gold cross hanging over her growing stomach, and she wore a pair of light blue denim jeans.
She and A$AP, who was clad in a blue jacket and leather trousers, walked side by side, holding hands, and he even stopped to plant a kiss on her head.
Rihanna is believed to have given birth to their first child in May last year, before surprising the world by announcing she was pregnant once again during her stellar performance at the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.
She kicked off the live performance, her first in seven years, suspended high above the stadium and dressed in all red.
With a knowing look to the camera she opened her jacket and stroked her pronounced stomach, with fans speculating the move to be a pregnancy announcement.
The happy news was later confirmed by her representative.
