
Eddie Howe was forced to draft in youngsters Amadou Diallo and Ben Parkinson into his Carabao Cup squad to face Manchester United. But Howe still named a strong team despite a host of absentees as he looked to edge into the last 16 of the competition Newcastle reached the final of last term.
Howe is without injured stars such as Alexander Isak, Sven Botman and Elliot Anderson. Howe made a host of changes with Martin Dubrvaka starting in goal against his old club while Tino Livramento, Emil Krafth, Paul Dummett and Matt Targett made up the defence. Howe went with Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Lewis Hall in midfield.
And Matt Ritchie, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon made up the attack but there was plenty back-up on the bench. Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes were all named as subs. It was a proud night for Longstaff as he captained the Magpies against the side that wanted to sign him back in 2018. Youngsters Amadou Diallo and Ben Parkinson were included on the bench.
