Newcastle United fans have taken to Chronicle Live to rate the players after the Magpies ran out comfortable 3-0 winners at Manchester United on Wednesday evening.
A scintillating first-half saw Eddie Howe‘s side go 2-0 up at the break thanks to a wonderful Miguel Almiron that was orchestrated by Tino Livramento, before fellow young full-back Lewis Hall got himself on the scoresheet with a half-volley from the edge of the area. It didn’t stop there; Joe Willock hammered home from the edge to send the away end barmy and it was a walk in the park for the last half hour with the home side having just three shots on target.
The draw has pitted a trip to Chelsea in the quarter-finals, which means Newcastle are just four games from Wembley success – but we’ll allow fans to revel in the win at Old Trafford a little bit longer with the quarter-final stage coming in six weeks. Here is how the fans rated the stars on a superb night in the north west.
Martin Dubravka – 8.4
A relatively easy night for the Slovakian with just three shots on target from United.
Tino Livramento – 9.6
Outstanding run set up Almiron for the first. Looks sure to be a superb Kieran Trippier replacement in the long-term.
Emil Krafth – 8.8
First game in over a year and he looked like he’d never been away – especially given he is FOURTH choice right-back and rarely features in the middle.
Paul Dummett – 8.7
Similar to Krafth. Had shown his credentials against Manchester City in the previous round and was imperious again.
Lewis Hall – 9.0
Completes what is arguably the best young full-back pairing in the Premier League. Superb volley for his first professional goal – and at 19, he looks to be a real prospect.
Matt Targett – 5.6
Rare start for the former Villa man but he was unfortunate to be injured in the early stages of the game.
Joe Willock – 9.1
Superb finish for the third to kill the game off. Chances will surely become more commonplace for the midfielder now that Tonali is out for the season and he took his first chance in style.
Sean Longstaff – 8.7
Captained Newcastle to mark his 150th appearance and what a game to do it in. A real part of the St. James’ Park furniture.
Matt Ritchie – 7.9
First appearance of the season for Ritchie and he slotted in extremely well.
Joelinton – 8.8
We all know the problems surrounding Joelinton being used as a striker but he led the line incredibly well. What a signing he’s turned out to be.
Anthony Gordon – 8.2
Really coming into his own on Tyneside now. Questions were raised over his price tag but he’s looking to be worth every penny.
Miguel Almiron – 8.8 – Played practically the full game and his opener began a wonderful evening.
Callum Wilson – 7.4 – Caused the Red Devils problems.
Bruno Guimaraes – 7.8 – Offered a great bit of energy for the last half hour.
Kieran Trippier – 7.5 – Saw the game out expertly.
Dan Burn – 7.4 – Came on for defensive stability.
