We spoke to traders at the Newcastle Christmas Market to find out what products they expect to be top sellers this year. From quirky ear muffs to photographs of local landmarks, here’s a round-up of some top gift ideas
The annual Christmas Market in the city centre is now under way and is proving an instant hit with shoppers as traders enjoy a busy start to the run.
Having opened in Newcastle on Saturday, the day after the Moosenwirt alpine-theme bar at the top of Grey Steet, the market features an array of attractions from street food and drinks to some unique gift ideas. The cabin-style pop-ups are also grouped around the Monument, the top of Grainger Street and over at Old Eldon Square and will be in business up to December 23, although there will be a few changes to the line-up in coming weeks.
Most, but not all, are open daily, from 10am to 8pm on Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 5pm on Sundays. And, when the evenings draw in, their illuminations and festive lights add even more to the atmosphere.
Here’s a closer look at some of the gift traders among the stalls to give shoppers an idea of what’s on offer and what the traders themselves think will prove the most popular buys for Christmas.
