Amazon launched thousands of deals a week early on Friday, November 17, with some huge savings to be had on its own devices including Fire TVs, Echo smart speakers and Ring home security, alongside discounts on top brands across tech, homeware, beauty and loads more. Shoppers have plenty of time to browse the deals, which will come to an end on Cyber Monday on November 27.
MSE said that while there are some decent deals to be had on big brands at the online retail giant, others are best to steer clear of. For example, when it comes to Amazon devices, the Echo Pop and Echo Dot have been listed by MSE as gadgets worth snapping up this Black Friday, with both of them currently going for their cheapest ever price at Amazon at £17.99 and £21.99 respectively, 60% off their full price – although they are also available for the same price at Currys and John Lewis too.
However, shoppers may be surprised to hear that they would be better off shopping for some other Amazon devices elsewhere this Black Friday. MSE pointed out that the Kindle Paperwhite, for example, is currently going for £114.99 down from £149.99 on Amazon – but it’s pipped to the post by 99p at Currys with a price tag of £114, so it’s always worth checking out other retailers before you buy.
Another brand that has been flying off the shelves this Black Friday is Ninja, and MSE has highlighted a couple of unbeatable air fryer deals on Amazon that are going for their “cheapest ever” prices. This includes the limited edition copper and black versions of the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer MAX+, now £179.99 down from £269.99, and the Ninja Foodi MAX Multi Cooker, now £199.99 down from £309.99, both of which are only sold on Amazon.
But if you’ve got your eye on other Ninja products, you may be better off visiting another retailer. MSE pointed out that the Ninja Foodi MAX Health Grill & Air Fryer is cheapest at Currys, again beating Amazon by 99p with a price tag of £199 down from £269.99, while the Ninja Foodi SmartLid Multi Cooker 6L is cheapest on the Ninja website or at John Lewis for £219.99, down from £299.99.
MSE also advised that it’s worth using free price tracker CamelCamelCamel to check the history of any Amazon product, as you may find out that a Black Friday ‘deal’ isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. For example, a couple of popular products on Amazon were already at their current reduced prices before the Black Friday sale began, such as the Chromecast with Google TV and the Sony WH-1000XM4 Noise Cancelling Headphones, the experts said.
“Don’t allow yourself by the hype around Black Friday and be sucked into buying something you don’t need or can’t afford,” the MSE pros cautioned. “Always do your own price comparisons to ensure you are getting the best deal possible – don’t just take a retailer’s word for it.”
