Love Island’s Liberty admits ‘toxic habit’ she picked up amid self-esteem struggle

Liberty Poole, who went on the seventh season of Love Island, has opened up about a “toxic habit” that she picked up which left her unable to recognise herself.

The reality star admitted to MailOnline that, before even entering the Love Island villa, she would edit her own photos, specifically her waist and face, until she said it “didn’t look like me”.

Liberty said: “These days on social media we need to be more real. As a young girl I really suffered with comparing myself to other girls on social media.

“I went through a period where I struggle with low self-esteem. I never felt good enough or pretty enough.”

Liberty said that when she looked back at old photos of herself, they “didn’t even look normal” because of the extent that she was editing them. Then after seeing herself on Love Island, Liberty said it was like she had “body dysmorphia” because she looked different to the pictures.

Now turning over a new leaf, Liberty said that even though she has put on weight since leaving the villa, she is trying to embrace her body and doesn’t want to promote toxic habits.

Liberty said: “Still to this day I feel like I stand out and I’m a bit different, but I want to encourage girls to embrace themselves and be a positive role model on social media.”

In an Instagram post last month where Liberty looked stunning in a fiery red swimsuit, she admitted that she wasn’t happy with the photo and was tempted to “lift her natural boobs” so that they looked “perfect”.

However, the star was transparent with her fans and wrote the caption: “Curvy and proud !!

“I was tempted to lift my natural boobs in this picture so they looked “perfect” shrink the bloating but no this is me !! So why would I, this is real and this is a normal body despite what beauty standards say just be you . MY BODY MY STANDARDS.”

Fans rushed to the comments to show their support as one said: “This is a body A real, inspiring, feminine body that young girls should see and appreciate and know that this is what a happy woman looks like x,” while another said: “More of this needed for young followers to see”.

After almost two years since her time in the villa trying to find love, Liberty is currently sunning it up with her fellow islanders on a girl’s trip to Crete.

Along with Faye Winter, Kaz Kamwi, Sharon Gaffka and Abigail Rawlings, the reality stars have reunited and have been sharing glimpses of their girls holiday online.
