Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool will smell blood after both Newcastle United and Manchester United dropped points this weekend. The Toon need just seven points from their final few games to book their place in the Champions League beyond any doubt.
The Toon were beaten by title hopefuls Arsenal at the weekend, while the Red Devils were beaten by West Ham United. Liverpool’s win over Brentford sees them move to within three points of Eddie Howe’s side, while they’re just a point behind Manchester United.
Klopp and his side have a more favourable run of games compared to their top-four rivals and Neville believes they’ll start to pile the pressure on in the coming weeks.
Neville told Sky Sports: “I think Liverpool will smell a little bit of blood. They’ll try to ramp it up a little bit, Jurgen Klopp I’m sure will be thinking and his players will be thinking going into training tomorrow ‘come on we’ve got a chance here.’
“They’ll want to hunt down and make it interesting. There’s a job to do for Manchester United and Newcastle but they should have enough in the tank to be able to get over the line.
