Josie Gibson called a brief ‘halt’ to Thursday’s This Morning, just seconds after cameras started rolling, to give a well deserved moment in the spotlight to one of her co-stars, after they’ve been presented with an MBE.
A huge favourite with ITV viewers at home, former Big Brother winner Josie has been back in main presenting action on the daytime programme this week, alongside Rylan Clark, with them hosting for a fourth day in a row, as they teased big name guests like Alesha Dixon.
However, it was one of their own who got all the attention moments into Thursday’s live broadcast, as Josie paused proceedings, telling viewers she had a ‘very, very special announcement’ to make, before revealing that This Morning’s resident agony aunt and TV icon, Deidre Sanders had been awarded an MBE.
The camera then cut to Deidre, who brought the medal in with her to proudly show off on camera. Describing what her day at Windsor Castle for the all important ceremony was like, she explained: “They made me feel so warm and welcome. Like many people, I was nervous. All the staff at every level, everyone is lovely. We had a lovely day, it was really great”
The occasion was tinged with some sadness for Deidre, after Rick, her beloved husband of 55 years, passed away at the end of last year, just days after she found out she was getting the MBE. With Rick unable to be there for Deidre’s special moment, she was joined by his oldest friend, as well as her two daughters.
Having heard Deidre talk about her special day, Josie remarked: “If there’s anyone who deserves it more. Forty years you’ve been helping people,” as the woman of the moment replied: “I love talking to viewers here, you develop such a personal connection with them.” Offering his congratulations, Rylan then commented: “Long time coming in my opinion. We are so thrilled for you. You wear that medal with pride!”
