Kieran Trippier has revealed that Jason Tindall could only laugh after being ‘hammered’ by Newcastle United players for becoming a ‘meme’.
A Twitter account called ‘Jason Tindall desperate to be centre of attention’ made headlines earlier this year after highlighting the Newcastle assistant shaking an opposition manager’s hand before Eddie Howe; the 45-year-old being front and centre in dressing room photographs; and instances of the number two being the first to greet players after they were taken off.
Nearly 55,000 people follow the account, which is more than the capacity of St James’ Park, and Howe previously revealed ‘we’ve spent the last half hour having a laugh with him about certain things he’s been sent’. The squad even ensured Tindall – making the peace sign with both hands while sitting on the floor – was at the front of the dressing room picture taken after Newcastle qualified for the Champions League last season to ‘rub it in everyone’s faces that had something to say’.
“I’ve known JT for many years, going back to my Burnley days,” Trippier told Sky Sports. “The manager is the manager so JT is the one to go to if you need anything.
“As you see on social media, he’s a meme. We hammer him about it. He just laughs because him and the manager have a great relationship.
“They have a great understanding on the touchline and that’s how it’s always been from the Bournemouth days as well so it’s funny. He gets hammered for it. Don’t worry about that.”
