ITV’s The Voice viewers stunned as 90s girlband star ‘rejected’ in auditions

The Voice UK viewers were in shock on Saturday night as a famous 90s pop star appeared on the show and was brutally rejected by the coaches, not even getting a chance to speak to them as she failed to impress with her performance.

At the end of the 90s, the Honeyz were one of the biggest girl groups in the UK, with their singles like Finally Found, End of the Line, Never Let You Down and Won’t Take it Lying Down all making the top 10, before they split a few years later. While not in the original line-up, Mariama Goodman was in the Honeyz for the peak of their chart success, before joining once again in 2013 as the band appeared in the first series of ITV’s The Big Reunion.

Now 44 and working as a midwife, Mariama attended her Blind Audition with her daughter watching on backstage in support. In the VT before her performance of Out Here on My Own from Fame, Mariama said: “I’ve always wanted to see how I would do with it being just me. It’s a very different feeling than being surrounded by girls doing it with you. There’s a bit more pressure when you’re on your own.”

Sadly for Mariama, while, overall the The Voice judges seemed to enjoy her rendition, none of them were swayed to hit the button to get their chair spinning, meaning she will play no further part in the new series. And, worse still, she didn’t even get a chance to discuss her pop star part as her ‘snub’ meant she was forced to leave the stage in silence, as Olly Murs, none the wiser on who she was, remarked that she seemed to ‘lose her way’ in the middle of the song.

Expressing their shock at seeing Mariama audition, one viewer took to X to exclaim: 2MARIAMA FROM THE HONEYZ!?” as another reacted: “I still listen to “Wont Take It Lying Down” and “End of The Line”, I want “Finally Found” to be my future first dance”
