Inside Moosenwirt as Newcastle’s alpine bar makes a comeback for Christmas

Firepits, festive tipples and a feelgood mood – see inside the city centre pop-up which will form a centrepiece of Newcastle Christmas Market that gets under way on Saturday

It’s now looking a lot like Christmas in Newcastle as Moosenwirt brings a cosy vibe to the heart of the city with its alpine-theme bar and village pop-up.

The festive attraction, which made its debut last year, proved a hugely popular addition to the city centre and is set for a warm welcome as it gears up for another Christmas season. Its bar and ‘village’ lay-out at the top of Grey Street, where it will join the hubbub of the Christmas Market which opens on Saturday, includes extras this year with a second ‘luxury’ igloo dome joining the tucked-away Elk Lodge which is available for private bookings.

Otherwise anyone can just walk in to Moosenwirt, take a seat around a fire pit near the log-wood bar and enjoy a drink while listening to live acoustic and festive music. They can take in any food bought at the nearby markets too.

Run by well-known local names Mike Hesketh and Nigel Holliday, the alpine pop-up will be open 10am until 11pm until January 2. Among the drinks on sale are festive options such as loaded hot chocolate, mulled wine and cider plus a new rose glühwein alongside the choice of continental beers; spirits and cocktails.

From Saturday, Moosenwirt will open to the public daily from 10am until 8pm. Children are welcome until 8pm and dogs at all times. For more information see here.
