I’m A Celeb’s Myleene’s tragic past – from baby heartbreak to battle with alcohol

As Myleene Klass once again delights the nation in her second trip to the I’m a Celebrity jungle, many fans have been left curious about the star’s life before taking part in the South African series.

While many fans will no doubt recognise her from her previous stint in the Australian jungle back in 2006, away from the bare basics of camp, Myleene is also an accomplished musician, mother and partner – but she’s overcome a lot of tragedy and heartbreak to get there.

In her 45 years on this earth, the singer has lived through some of the “worst days of her life”, including four devastating miscarriages, a messy divorce and a difficult relationship with alcohol.

Although Myleene now has three children, she sadly lost four along the way before welcoming her youngest son, Apollo, now three, with fiancé Simon Motson.

Touching on her grief in the heartbreakingly raw documentary Miscarriage & Me in 2021, she said: “I remember the despair, grief and anger. And the panic. But it wasn’t until I looked back at my diaries that I realised how broken I was.”

Struggling to come to terms with the gravity of her loss, Myleene struggled with grief for a long time, but did admit on the Dirty Mother Pukka podcast in 2022, that she had been comforted by the knowledge that every pregnancy permanently changes a mothers DNA.

“I’ll tell you something that’s quite magical. Your body holds the DNA. I didn’t know this,” she explained to host Anna Whitehouse.

“So when you become pregnant, there are cells in your body…that’s how you know if you’re carrying a boy or a girl now because they do those newfangled tests. And your baby almost helps you when you fall pregnant.

“I break this down to my children, it fixes whatever needs to be fixed in your body. That’s why you feel you can feel very strong in pregnancy.”

Myleene continued: “It sends out all these little messages and helps with the organs, helps tweak whatever needs to be strengthened and that DNA is left behind. So if you’ve carried a boy, it’s in your DNA.”

The star poignantly then concluded: “They never leave you.”

The former Hear’say singer met her other half Simon on a blind date eight years ago, but prior to finding love and stability with him, the star had sadly experienced an explosive break-up with ex-husband Graham Quinn.

The problems first began when her celebrity bodyguard husband Graham dropped the bombshell he was leaving on her 34th birthday, a move which shocked Myleene as the couple had two children together and had only been married for six months.

As a result of the the breakup, Myleene confessed to boozing well into the early hours of the morning and sometimes even waking up five hours later to drink more.

The habit soon became an expensive money pit, with the struggling single mum wrestling with her mental health in some of the darkest days of her life as she feared she would “lose everything.”

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast in 2019, Myleene explained: “I was doing breakfast TV and I went to get out the car and I thought, ‘I can’t’.

“I was right in the middle of the divorce. And I opened the door, and I couldn’t get out the car. I couldn’t breathe. Finances were spiralling because I thought, ‘I’m going to lose everything.’”

Things were so bad at one point, her pal Lauren Laverne raced to her house at 4am to check on her after growing concerned for her welfare.

“That’s how low I was,” she told the podcast. “I’ve never ever been in the position where I’ve had to ask people for help. I didn’t want [divorce] to define me, but it did change me irrevocably.”

She added: “The humiliation, you’ve got people looking at you, blaming you without a clue as to what the f**k is going on.”

After the breakup Myleene vowed to cut all ties with Graham and never speak to him again, as she hinted that her ex-husband had “lied” to her.

Graham however hit back at the claims on twitter in 2015, when he claimed: “I’ve stayed quiet for three years now but enough is enough.”
