Following Thursday’s reports that This Morning duo Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are “barely speaking” off-camera at the moment and have “become more distant”, fans have rushed to Holly’s social media to show their support for the presenter.
Last night Phil made an official statement in a bid to mend his broken friendship and working relationship with Holly, 42, after claiming: “The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us.”
The 61 year old continued: “As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone. Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.”
However, a number of fans seem to have taken sides in the fall out. One fan wrote on one of Holly’s recent Instagram posts: “Please don’t leave This Morning but you have to take urself away from PS you have worked hard don’t let his downfall be yours.”
Another commented: “never leave this morning.”
A third added: “Please stop working with schofield.”
Holly is said to have been left blindsided by Phillip’s statement, with a source close to the much-loved presenting powerhouse telling the Daily Mail that Holly had no idea Phillip was going to make a statement.
Phillip’s statement came just hours after reports emerged which claimed Holly had made it clear that “should Phil ever leave she would want to stay”.
“They are separate entities,” a source told The Sun yesterday. “It has become an open secret that things aren’t as rosy as they once were.”
They added that the rift was “clear” to people working with the duo on This Morning, saying: “Professionally you would have no idea there was anything going on because on camera they are acting exactly the same, but behind the scenes their relationship has cooled.”
The ITV double-act, who have been co-presenting This Morning since 2009, initially crossed paths as hosts of Dancing On Ice on the same channel. Their shared experience on the show led to them becoming “great friends” and establishing a strong bond that has lasted over a decade.
However, their Dancing On Ice presenting roles have been thrown into doubt amid the reported ongoing tension. A source told The Sun: “Holly and Phil are the shining stars of Dancing on Ice, but if they aren’t getting on there are fears it won’t work.
“Both Holly and Phil are complete professionals and neither of them would ever let on there was an issue on screen. But now the issues in their working relationship are out in the open, it cannot be brushed under the carpet.”
