The blonde beauty would have turned 42 on Friday but sadly lost her battle with breast cancer in 2021, aged just 39.
Her former bandmates – Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh – penned a beautiful message to Sarah alongside a smiling picture of her from the band’s Love Machine music video. It said: “Sending love to all Sarah’s fans, friends and family on her birthday today x”
Girls Aloud was formed in 2002 after being put together on the talent show ITV’s Popstars: The Rivals by judges Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh and Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.
Nadine commented from her own account, and said: “Happy birthday Angel, XXX” and Nicola added five purple love heart emojis to represent the five members united.
Her fans started commenting with their own personal tributes too. One said: “Forever our walking primrose” referring to one of Sarah’s most infamous Girls Aloud lines from The Promise, while another said: “Sending love and hugs to Sarah and her family and friends. Especially the Girls. I’m sure Sarah is full of pride with what the girls have done in her memory.”
Others added red heart emojis in abundance and some said that they’ll “miss her always” and that they’ll “never forget her.”
Sarah first revealed to fans that she had breast cancer in August 2020, which she admitted had spread. Sadly it was just a year later that she passed away.
In 2021, her memoir Hear Me Out was published giving a better insight into her life, career and terminal diagnosis, in the hope that it might help someone else going through similar.
Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Girls Aloud secretly reunited at a North London studio to shoot the music video for their first single in 11 years – which will be completely dedicated to Sarah.
The Something Kinda Ooooh hitmakers, who split in 2013, were constantly rumoured to be feuding with one another so a comeback will delight fans.
The quartet attempted to go incognito into the studio in baseball caps and shades and arriving in separate cars, but were spotted regardless. Although the new single is top secret, the video will see the girls playing superhero characters complete with costumes and capes.
Girls Aloud beat their boyband counterpart One True Voice and landed the coveted Christmas number one slot with their debut single, Sound of the Underground which went on to be a smash hit for weeks.
