Filming on MTV’s reality show Geordie Shore has been “abandoned” for the time being after the cast became ill while taping the show on location in Europe, according to reports.
The new series, which is yet to be confirmed by MTV, was set to be filmed in sunny Cyprus. However, some of the cast are said to have been taken ill with symptoms so “horrific” that the crew have been forced to set down their cameras entirely and fly back to the UK.
On Wednesday, a source was quoted as stating: “It was horrific – everyone got ill and couldn’t film.”
They continued to The Sun: “It ripped through the cast so in the end, bosses had to end filming early and everyone went home.”
A representative for MTV declined to comment when contacted by OK!.
The latest Geordie Shore drama comes after previous claims that the show had come to an end – though a show representative soon shot these claims down.
A source previously said: “MTV chiefs have decided the time has come to call it a day on Geordie Shore. The already commissioned series, which is the show’s 24th, will go ahead with filming kicking off this weekend and the reunion will go ahead as planned later this summer.
“But once those have been filmed MTV have decided to rest the series and will not be commissioning any more. Think of it as resting the format rather than cancelling it out right.”
An official MTV spokesperson hit back and pointed out that Geordie Shore “continues to be one of MTV’s biggest shows”.
They added: “We can’t wait for fans to see what we have in store next season.”
The reunion show aired 11 years after Geordie Shore first began and included a group holiday, Holly Hagan’s wedding, and Charlotte revealing to her cast mates that she was pregnant.
Charlotte said ahead of the series: “I always said I would be up for taking part in a reunion show and made no secret that Geordie Shore holds a special place in my heart.
“I’m very excited to reconnect and reminisce with my favourite people and life-long friends.”
