The first homes have been released for sale at a new housing development on a historic estate in County Durham.
Bellway’s Durham division is building 145 new homes on the country estate at Lambton Park, near Chester-le-Street, which is the ancestral seat of the Earls of Durham. Potential buyers can now be among the first to secure a property at Hedworths Green, where an initial selection of three, four and five-bedroom houses are available to reserve.
Hayley Teasdale, sales manager for Bellway Durham, said: “This is an extraordinary location and a genuinely unique opportunity for anyone who is looking for a modern home in historic surroundings.
“There was understandably a lot of interest at the launch as I think many people have been taking a keen interest in the plans here and love the idea of living on the Lambton Estate.
“Our new residents will also be able to make the most of the beautiful walks and footpaths on the estate. It is an idyllic spot.
“However, as well as being a beautiful heritage location, it is also highly practical with good road links and easy access to important urban centres in the region. It’s just a few minutes’ drive from the A1 and that means Newcastle is around half an hour away and you can get to Durham in around 15 minutes.
“The development is also only two miles from Chester-le-Street town centre and a 25-minute drive from Gateshead’s Metrocentre, which is great for shopping and entertainment.”
Bellway’s plans for Hedworths Green include a café building overlooking the large village green which will include a traditional-style butter cross. The development just off the A183 Chester Road is on land that was once the site of the Lambton Lion Park – an attraction that had lions, hippos, giraffes, elephants, and zebra on show, and attracted many tourists in the 1970s.
The redevelopment project is leading to investment in the heritage assets of Lambton Park and the restoration of significant buildings such as the Lamb Bridge, the Castle and Stables.
There is a showhome available to view at Hedworths Green at Lambton Park – the five-bedroom Woodstone detached house, which has an open-plan kitchen/dining/family room, a study, a living room, a utility room and a cloakroom on the ground floor. It also has five double bedrooms, two of which have en suite shower rooms, and a family bathroom.
Prices for the three, four and five-bedroom houses currently for sale start from £299,995. Two-bedroom apartments are also included in the plans for the scheme.
