Callum Wilson says Liverpool need to relax as the pressure begins to ramp up on Newcastle United heading into the final few games of the season. The Magpies’ defeat to Arsenal saw Liverpool cut the deficit to Eddie Howe’s side to just three points, albeit the Toon have a game in hand.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won their last six games on the bounce to surge towards Champions League football while Newcastle and Manchester United have both dropped points. The Toon’s fate remains in their own hands with a trip to Leeds United this weekend.
West Ham’s win over the Red Devils did Newcastle a favour, meaning they stayed in third place despite the defeat to the Gunners.
Speaking to Michail Antonio about the Hammers’ win, Wilson told The Footballer’s Football Podcast: “It was a great result for you boys. Obviously us being in the top-four, it was a great result for us as well.
“Liverpool need to relax you know. It was a bad day at the office for us boys compared to you so it’s going to be contrasting emotions this week again.
“It’s that rollercoaster that we’re on. I said I could smell it [Champions League football] a couple of weeks ago, I don’t know where it’s gone. Can’t find it.”
Wilson’s comments only highlight the task at hand for the Toon this season, but Howe has reiterated the need to take it one game at a time.
