Brothers to face trial in connection with alleged Bank Holiday Monday hammer attack in Ashington

Two brothers will face a trial next year accused of being involved in an alleged hammer attack in a Northumberland town.

Aaron and Kyle Freeman are alleged to have assaulted a man on Maple Street, in Ashington, on Bank Holiday Monday, April 10. Following an appearance at South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court the following day, both men appeared at Newcastle’s Moot Hall on Tuesday morning for a plea hearing.

Aaron Freeman, 32, of Pont Street, in Ashington, faces one charge of wounding with intent and one charge of having an offensive weapon – a hammer. Kyle Freeman, 35, of College Road, in Ashington, faces one charge of assault by beating.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges they face and will go to trial over the allegations next year.

Judge Robert Spragg granted both men conditional bail and fixed a trial date for Monday, February 19 2024. The defendants will appear at Newcastle Crown Court for trial on that date.
