Little-known entertainment perks included with Amazon Prime

If you need any more inspiration to sign up for Prime – besides the fact that it’s currently free for 30 days – here are some more details on what a membership includes. If you do nab that free trial, be sure to make the most out of it!

One of the most well-known perks of an Amazon Prime membership is access to Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming service which includes thousands of movies and TV shows including original series such as The Wheel of Time, The Boys, The Devil’s Hour and The Rig. But there are a few other entertainment services included in a subscription that often go unnoticed by customers – here are three highlights:

Ad-free songs and podcasts

Prime subscribers get Amazon Music without adverts included with their membership. The service offers 100 million songs, podcasts, playlists and radio stations.

You can choose to stream your favourite songs and podcasts on Amazon Music for free without a Prime membership, as long as you can live with hearing a few adverts as you listen. Spotify is one of the most popular platforms offering a similar service, with a free ad-based tier and a premium ad-free tier for £10.99 per month.

Books and magazines

Prime Reading is another perk included with a Prime subscription, allowing you to borrow books, magazines, and more from the Prime Reading catalogue. Members also get early access to Kindle First, where they can download a new book every month at no extra cost.

If you like the sound of this but don’t want to pay for a Prime subscription, a great free alternative is the BorrowBox app. This service links up to your local library and lets you borrow e-books, audio books, newspapers and magazines to read or listen to on the app completely free.

Video games

Prime Gaming is included with Amazon Prime, and features free games to download, in-game content, and a free monthly channel subscription on Twitch. The platform means subscribers can get access to selected games and in-game loot at no additional cost – if you want to browse free games without paying for Prime, check out similar platforms such as Steam or EA, which offer free-to-play games and are also free to sign up.
