Ellie Leach has been identified as the ‘one to beat’ on Strictly Come Dancing this years, as bookies slash odds on the ex Coronation Street star winning, to make her the new favourite.
When she was announced as a contestant earlier this year, the 22-year-old actress, best known to millions of ITV viewers for playing Faye Windass, was put in the middle of the pack in the Strictly betting, some way behind the likes of Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, Layton Williams and Angela Scanlon. However, while some of her rivals have seen their scores falter since week one, Ellie and pro partner Vito Coppola have been one of the most consistent couples in the BBC ballroom over the last seven weeks.
The signs were there that there were good things to come, when their week one jive demanded attention and, since then, their partnership has been going from strength to strength, fuelling predictions that, not only could they steal an unexpected Strictly win, but that their could be something romantic going on between the two single stars.

Last week, a relationship expert claimed Ellie and Vito had an ‘undeniable’ spark and now, after topping the leaderboard for the first time, thanks to their Halloween Week samba scoring an amazing 38 out of 40, they have come from third in the odds seven days ago, to being the new favourites, overtaking Bobby and Nigel in the betting.
Going into Saturday’s Strictly live show, BetVictor installed Ellie as the 7/4 Strictly favourite, ahead of Bobby on 2/1 and Nigel, who’d been frontrunner for over a month, now on 10/3. At the other end of the betting, Adam Thomas is rank outsider on 100/1, behind Krishnan Guru-Murthy on 80/1.
Highlighting the rather drastic change in the odds, BetVictor’s Sam Boswell commented: “In the winners’ market, Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach is the new favourite to lift the Glitterball trophy. She is coming in at 7/4 now – a huge improvement from when the market first went live, as she was priced up at 12/1. She sat at the top of last week’s leaderboard with a near-perfect score of 38 after blowing the judges away with her Salsa to Murder on the Dancefloor.”
