Former newsreader Kate Silverton has wowed fans after revealing an unexpected hair transformation on social media today.
The ex-BBC Weekend News journalist and broadcaster appeared almost unrecognisable in the new snaps she shared with her 66,600 online followers on Instagram.
The 52-year-old mother-of-two – who last year famously swapped news reading for child therapy, later releasing her own books – was recognisable on television screens for her signature brunette choppy pixie cut, which every so often she had highlighted with gold.
In new photos however, the former television star showed off, not only a never-before-seen shade, but also a floppier, more bohemian style of cut.
“Been offline for so long whilst I juggle #soloparenting with book writing alongside my clinical work … breaking things up with a lighter colour courtesey of @cintalondon … bit scared of taking it on the road,” she captioned the mirror selfie.
Kate – who competed on the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing alongside partner Aljaž Škorjanec – continued: “But good to have chance once in a while … It’s good to ‘let go’ and trust that nothing has to be forever … it allowed us to step forward unafraid regardless.”
She finished her caption with a positive ending, saying: “Hope you had a good BH weekend and enjoyed the festivities !”
And fans of Kate’s have since flooded to the comment section of her brand new posting, gushing over her new hairstyle.
Fellow television presenter Julia Bradbury wrote: “Welcome back [starry-eyed emoji]”, whilst Kate responded: “@realjuliabradbury when you get to the point you realise you simply #can’tdoitall !!”
And another TV host pal, Anita Rani, added: “GORGE!”
One follower then seconded their compliments, writing, “Well said kate. Good luck with the new venture (s)”, whilst another commented: “Looking fab, go you!”
Another continued: “Well said @katesilverton and welcome back! It’s good, as you say, to remember that nothing has to be forever and change is good. Xx”
Kate’s plans of a sudden change in career came to light in 2021 when she revealed she was volunteering as a counsellor at a London primary school.
She told the Mirror at the time: “I’ve started counselling in a London primary school – on placement, I should stress. I have my own clients and I report to a supervisor at the end of the day. I’m absolutely loving it.”
“That’s my joy at the moment. It’s an extraordinary privilege to be doing that. I feel very focused and fired.”
